Visiting Artists Coco and Spencer

Absolutely the best!!! Magic in the air!!!! My sculpture instructor rocks as trumpet player!!!

The combination of live musical instruments and a video presenting bears, witches, a vulnerable woman, a bearded old man with a gun pointing back at him and other forest creatures was absolutely delightful. It was haunting yet humorous, a vulnerable woman set against the back drop of a scary forest with strange people and creatures, an occasional disruptive bellow of live trumpet blast precisely at the moment the bearded old man made a ridiculous move or gesture. All were harmoniously assembled in a concise and well structured presentation in black and white, and ending in color. There were dynamic, unspoken themes in direct opposition to each other through out the video; an old, burly, mean looking man versus a delicate, fragile, vulnerable woman in a light dress, and a mixture of scenes with bears versus witches, and a black and white film ended in color. It was a perfect balance.
After the video, the audience was engaged with the artists directly through an unorthodox and highly informal lecture mainly with poetry and occasional stories or lessons learned. The entire art department was included in the presentation in one form or another. The speakers were earthy, self-effacing, and unassuming. What a refreshing change! I felt like I was in their home sitting on their couch listening to their experiences. This was absolutely a success and the audience must have felt as I did that this night was going to be special for all of us.
The audience was next invited to the installation piece which was identical in theme to their movie. This was a unique, fun, and engaging work!
