I think Picasso had completed something like 50,000 pieces of art in his life. Taking that cue, I had always wanted to be a writer and an artist. But you'll never get there unless you just do it...meaning...if you're going to write, start writing!! Quick!! Same with art.
They say Earnest Hemingway chose to forgo college and just start writing, which he did. I have met dozens of people with degrees in writing-related fields or art degrees who do not pursue their degree matter. So...I write, write, write, paint, paint, paint, sculpture, sculpture, sculpture constantly incorporating what I learn in classes into my technique. I write emails without expectation of responses, a blog now, journal entries, term papers, I am working on a novel, I have submitted a science fiction novelette for publication (rejected but who cares?).
